2005 Stone's Throw Chardonnay

The Melanson Vineyard is nestled on the south facing side of Pritchard Hill, situated at 1300 feet about Napa Valley's eastern ridge.  The 2.5 acres Stone's Throw is made up of 35-year-old Chardonnay (Wente clone) vines.  Wente brought the clone known for its distinctive citrus and muscat aromas to the U.S. in the 1940s from Meursault/Montrachet.  The 2003 release was fermented and aged in Francois Freres barrels and bottled unfiltered.

Stone's Throw Chardonnay - Tasting Notes
Our new 2003 Stone's Throw Chardonnay maybe our best release to date. The fruit comes from the oldest part of the vineyard where the soil is rocky and the vines struggle to produce. Grown from the original Wente clone, made famous by Kestler, the wine exhibits an oily and mineral character more commonly found in great white burgundies.  Exotic floral aromas of citrus peel, honey oak, butter and toast are followed by full body, rich, well-balanced mouth feel and texture. The finish lingers and compels you to drink another glass.
